ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE "PACKAGING" FRENZY

The universe is a wonderful place full of beautifully adorned ladies and elegantly assembled men. The popular saying “all that glitters is not gold” can be ascribed to many Nigerians who are in pursuit of that glitz and glamour and will do whatever it takes to achieve that. We all just need to look the part and this mindset has lead to the ‘Over-Packaging’ frenzy!
We hereby present to you the different categories of packaging/packagers;

The “Borrowers”

If you happen to be in the category of those that borrow just to shine and look like you are the “shit”, please STOP!!! Especially when you have friends that are likely to disgrace you on social media if you spoil the shoe or bag they borrowed you. Girls even go as far as borrowing weaves, nawa o! While some men are in debt, just so they can impress their girlfriends and meet up to their friends standard, they borrow items ranging from their wristwatch to the cars they drive (God help you if they are not even Uber drivers).

Regular make-up studio visitors

This is the category of people who require a facebeat by a well recognized MUA (Makeup Artist) for every party or event they attend. We all want to look good from time to time but why do some girls spend so much on paying a make-up artist to “panel beat” their face every weekend, even when they can’t conveniently afford it. This is definitely part of the package, it is understood that no one wants eyebrows looking like horns on a Sallah ram; everybody wants “fleeky” eyebrows, but please you don’t have to impress people at your own inconvenience.

The Abgada Clan.

White starched Agbada is one of starter pack items for a well packaged Nigerian man, some who are referred to as “demons”. These days, nobody wants to rock suits to weddings anymore (of which weddings are the new hangout spots and that's where the biggest fishes are caught *wink*). The Agbada now comes with so much “sweg” which automatically makes you look like the CEO of rich gang, you will even see some with “don jazzy’s stick” and pistol looking cigars in their mouth, all in the name of creating an impression. Ladies, BEWARE!!! Not all white agbadas are truly white.

Living that Gram and Snapchat Perfect Life.

I overheard a friend saying, “Nah, it is not gram worthy”, as she deletes a picture that does not properly highlight her assets. It got me thinking. We are all guilty of this; we always want to show our best side on Instagram and Snapchat. It’s great to be living that perfect life and if we can’t live the perfect life, to what extent do we go to make it look like we are?
In a discussion about pressure from the society on young people, someone said that women feel pressured to look a certain way, dress and package a certain way. Men are also guilty of this. I doubt people actually go out to have fun these days, because some people are more concerned about snapchatting the amount of bottles they are popping at the club.

The "Islanders".

The struggle to live on the island these days is real, that's why you will see 10 guys cramped up in one cubicle they call a flat. So basically, telling a guy/girl that you live on the island creates the illusion that you are ‘boxed up’ and this helps to further boost the package and gives it finishing touches. Nobody wants to even hangout on the mainland anymore, the island status has to be activated.
