Women empowerment .......the way forward

Women empowerment is all about making them self-dependent on taking the decisions of life irrespective of the fear of the people and the society. In today’s time, the condition of the women is deteriorating day by day with less attention paid to them. Though a lot is being said about women empowerment but nothing is done and that is why the women are becoming weak. It is high time that we understand the power of the women and help them to come out with flying colours. If we treat them with respect, this will automatically boost their confidence.
Today is the time when women empowerment is a must and there is a need to give equal importance to them. The problem of being biased towards men should come to an end as women are the basis of our lives and it is difficult to imagine success without them. Whether it is your mother, wife, sister or daughter everyone contributes towards your success and hence they should be respected by one and all. Women empowerment can make a lot of difference to our society in a number of ways.

Help in better decision-making power

Women empowerment gives every woman the right to take her decisions whether it is related to the family or to their work. They are free to decide what they want to do. Just like men do everything they wish to, similarly, the women too should share equal right to do things as per their wish. This is only possible if we women understand our powers and utilise it to the fullest. Taking that very first step is necessary and it comes when one gets the power.

Establish their Self-image

Even women have their own identity and it is important to maintain the same. In the olden times, the women were given the name of their husbands but today time has changed and women love to carry their own identity in every walk of life. Whether they are a housewife or working professional, their identity means everything for them. This is definitely a good sign that women are finally moving out of the four walls of their home and taking a big step.

Move ahead in their life

Women need to change their mindset that they are not just meant to remain within their home but move outside to live their own life. They have the choice to decide whether they like to work or indulge in other activities. Even the men should understand this and help the women around them to move ahead in life. This will fill the gap between men and women and offer them an equal status which was never given to them.

Lay a strong foundation of the society

Every child learns from their mother so the foundation of the society is laid down by none other than the women. By educating them properly we can certainly ensure a well-educated family. Gone are the days when women were not taught but today a lot of revolution has come and women are now learning and exploring life. Still, the women from the developing and under developed countries are not getting enough opportunities to grow and therefore they are lagging behind in everything.
So if you want the foundation to be strong, it is essential to empower the women as this will bring a huge revolution. They will be able to stand on their feet and play a crucial role in their family and outside both. This will help to build a better society where everyone is equal.

Active participation in country affairs

There is no denial to the fact that a woman has the ability to transform the lives. So if they actively participate in the outside activities it will have a huge impact on the overall development of the country. As we all know that women are very efficient in whatever they do so if the same is utilised in the right direction, they can do wonders for the nation. So it is important to bring them forward and encourage them to work and show their participation.
So if women are empowered there is no doubt that they can achieve anything they like. Rather than talking about women empowerment, it’s time to take an initiative that actually works only then the difference will be visible. You cannot sit back to let things happen on their own and even the women should come out to support themselves. This can bring a revolution for which we are waiting for a long time.

MUST READ.....10 Ways To Identify A ‘Runs Girl’ Anywhere in Nigeria”

See the 10 Ways To Identify A ‘Runs Girl’ Anyway in Nigeria”, especially Lagos. Lagos is a place where the struggle for limited resources is keen. All facilities are highly COMMERCIALIZED including love. Things are not always what they seem to be at the surface level, so there is a need for you to ‘shine your eyes’ before being caught buying the counterfeit.
These are top features of a Lagos prostitute who maybe trying hard to hide her identity to avoid stigma:
(1) Runs girls in Lagos are fond of heavy make-ups:
They are always desperate to create an impression wherever they go. This leads to obviously heavy and colourful make-ups that mayn’t even rhyme at all. The ‘foundation’ could be so strong like she wants to erect a building on her face.
(2) Awkward piercings:
These set of ladies pierce their nose with rings attached. Their ears carry multiple piercings too. Some bold ones go as far as rocking nose rings to show how fashionable they are.

(3) They chew gum indecently:
The act of chewing gum is very paramount among full time prostitutes and ‘aristos’ seem to have mastered the act well and I wonder the rationale behind it.
(4) Breast display:
As goods are displayed on shelves in the shopping mall, so also the runs girls flash their ‘selling points’ I.e their area of strength for prospective buyers. They make sure you can a vivid look of what you are up against like the massive boobs, big bum and exposure of the flat tummy or waist.

(5) Tattoos:
In Nigeria today, most decent and well-cultured ladies don’t draw tattoos. Most ‘female marketers’ are fond of conspicuous tattoos which are positioned at strategic points for you to feed your eyes on and they are always quite bold.
(6) Bleached skin:
A fair lady gets more attention and is easily noticeable than a dark one. Runs girls don’t joke with bleaching. The skin is unnecessary white while the fingers, toes and knuckles stand out black with the intention to break away like Biafra.

(7) Runs girls in Lagos love expensive phones with busy lines:
When a lady’s phone rings incessantly like she is a customer-care agent and you know she isn’t selling anything; my guy, she is into ‘E-commerce’ like Jumia delivering the assumed and the social media is likely her booking office.
(8) When you keep calling her phone and introducing yourself severally:
Runs girls have several clients to deal with. They hardly store numbers until they are sure you have the will to do business. They easily lose track of the identity of their callers and you get poised to re-introduce yourself over and over again.
(9) If she disappears mysteriously like the 2016 national budget from the senate on Friday nights:
Friday nights are sacred nights in Lagos when the ‘god of koboko’ is worshiped by hardworking men that must have been engaged productively throughout the week. On a night like this, a hot runs girl must have been booked by the highest bidder; hence a dramatic disappearance until Saturday morning.

(10) She is a likely ‘selling it’ if she spends the entire day sleeping and heads out every night:
Runs girls in Lagos have opposite working schedules, they leave for work when others are returning, and go on recess when others are at work like ‘Edo witches’ (na joke oh).

Why did a UNN final-year student commit suicide?

A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was found dead in his room on Sunday in what has been declared as a suicide.

For the past few years, Tobechukwu was a student of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The Odenigwe community woke up On Sunday, 27th of November with one life, less. Tobechukwu was found hanging by a rope in his room, neck contorted at an awkward angle, dead.

Why did he take his own life?

One of his colleagues who would rather not be named, said Tobechukwu was famous for his incredible skill in electrical wiring. He had just been given a job to do at the Department of Linguistics at the University.
“I saw him this (Sunday) morning, he seemed to have a problem which he needed money to solve,” the colleague added.
His University's Dean of Student Affairs, Uju Umo, told Premium Times:
“I travelled for a burial last weekend and yesterday I got a text message saying a student had committed suicide.
It happened at Odenigwe, one of the host communities outside the school and I was told he left a suicide note apologising to his fellow gamblers."
Clearly, Tobechukwu had a gambling problem. Another one of his colleagues told Premium Times:
“The guy is an ardent gambler. He comes to British Lodge to gamble. He borrows money to gamble. And he has borrowed a lot of money just to gamble."
His last post on Facebook was about MMM:
“MMM is enriching lives of millions of Nigerians every day. If you care to join or you have any questions please send me a message or comment below.”

Senate to upgrade 2 colleges of education to universities

Two colleges of education, Federal College of Education (FCE), Kano and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, are on the verge of being upgraded to universities.

This is following a bill proposed by Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano) and Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP, Imo), for the conversion of these colleges.
The bills, which were named “Federal University of Education Kano (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2016 and Alvan Ikoku University of Education Owerri (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2016”, passed through the first reading at the senate on Thursday, December 1, 2016.
This is not an unprecedented development in the country

What is the way forward for the National Youth Service Scheme?

1970 marked the end of a Civil which saw millions of Nigerians lose their lives, mostly from the Southeast and South-South of Nigeria.

At the very root of this war were strong ethnic sentiments whose effects saw Nigerians divide at every possible ethnic line.
The Head of State at the time, General Yakubu Gowon, had one task at hand; to rebuild the country. So he embarked on a mission aimed at reconstruction, rehabilitation, and reconciliation.

The lovechild of this effort was born in 1973 under Decree no. 24 as the National Youth Service Corps.

The goal of the scheme is to break those ethnic barriers by shuffling graduates to different regions in Nigeria, away from their states of origin. This, the scheme believes, will help foster National Unity and take Nigeria further on the path of true oneness.
Like everything else in Nigeria, implementation is the biggest problem. Over the years, Youth Corpers have complained of poor treatment from the government, and in some cases, have lost their lives mostly due to the failure of the government they set out to serve.
There were the election killings, there are the killings we might never know, and even most recently, the deaths of two corpers during orientation camp.

This begs the question; what future is there for the NYSC?

There's a divide here. Many people are of the opinion that the program is not doing  the fundamental thing it was made for; fostering national unity.

Others are of the opinion that while it might feel insignificant, the NYSC is not completely useless.

There are also those who strongly believe NYSC has contributed a whole lot, like how some people would never have considered travelling to their state of assignment if not for NYSC

There are those who believe NYSC should be replaced with MMM, but that is a topic for another day. We'd like to hear what you think.

23-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur turned down job offer from Bill Gates' Microsoft

A 23-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur, Chris Kwekowe turned down a job offer to work as a software engineer at Microsoft, owned by the richest man in the world, Bill Gates, in order to begin his own start-up in Lagos.

The Lagos State University computer science graduate proudly revealed this to Bill Gates during a television interview for Africa’s brightest young entrepreneurs in August 2016.
Kwekowe, who won the 2015 Anzisha Prize which came with a $25,000 cheque, said he rejected the offer to build up his own startup, Slatecube– a website aimed at helping other young Nigerians find jobs.
"When I told him, Gates was intrigued and he smiled. After the programme, all the directors were like, ‘Dude, you mean you actually turned down a job at Microsoft and had the guts to tell Bill Gates?’

Kwekowe founded Slatecube with his brother Emerald, 20, in October 2014. The pair funded their efforts by freelancing as web designers and running a software solutions firm.

He said Slatecube seeks to solve that problem by nurturing the graduates through digital internships and so far, Slatecube has an 80% employment rate for its users. Companies that have used the platform, have saved over $100,000 in 2015 by hiring skilled, ready to work employees.

In a Facebook post published last August, Chris narrated in details of his meeting with Bill Gates:
"Oh yeah, I did meet with Bill Gates in Durban, South Africa where we had some candid discussion about everything - from his involvement with charitable causes in the continent, to how he makes time to be a great father for his kids. My favourite moments were watching his reaction after I told him I turned down job offers from Microsoft and the likes to pursue something more defining for me, and how Africa's development depends more on sustainable investments in innovative social startups like Slatecube that solve some of the continent's biggest problems, rather than donating entirely to charity organisations who end up requiring more financial injection to deal with the minutest of issues. Anyways, we'd be working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to make our value proposition at Slatecube a pan-African privilege. Soon, you'd rather be in demand across the globe, and engage in companies and projects that make you better, and suits your career goals. Nothing can really be better"
